Working Agreements

Mission

UP WA Indivisible is a local pro-democracy community collective. We believe in the value of all humans. We work to educate and empower each other to take part in our democracy & society in meaningful ways.

Purpose

Indivisible University Place (“UP WA Indivisible”) is a group of people working together to support democracy. We are part of the larger National Indivisible movement that believes in “A real democracy — of, by, and for the people”.

UP WA Indivisible focuses on local action and small groups to create change. By working with other local community groups, small businesses, public institutions, religious institutions and policymakers, we make a bigger impact.

What we believe

Core Beliefs

  • Democracy is at risk. Some people in power are working to weaken our government and make it less fair. We must take action to protect it.
  • Economic inequality is a core problem. When wealth is controlled by only a few people, democracy suffers. We work to make sure everyone has a fair chance.
  • Dividing people by race, religion, gender, or sexuality hides bigger issues. Throughout history, those in power have used these divisions to keep people from working together for economic and social justice. We are committed to breaking down these barriers to stand together.

Going Small to Go Big

  • Strong communities make democracy stronger. When people trust and support each other, they are more likely to get involved and make a difference.
  • Helping each other locally builds power. By improving our local communities and creating support networks, we are healthier and more resilient.
  • Focusing on local actions is more effective and easier to manage. It’s something we have more control over, and there’s strong proof that working on local projects leads to progress nationally.
  • In-person interactions are essential for building trust, strengthening relationships, and humanizing our work. Meeting face-to-face deepens connections, calms our minds and fosters creativity.

Methods

  • Small, flexible groups help people stay engaged. When organizing is decentralized, people can participate in ways that fit their skills and energy levels. This keeps our movement strong.
  • Working with others makes us more powerful. Partnering with community groups, small businesses, public institutions, religious institutions and policymakers helps us scale.
    • Being involved in different groups helps us stay flexible, learn new things, and take on challenges more effectively.
  • Everyone deserves to be included and treated fairly. We fight against unfair systems and work to create a welcoming space. We especially want to make space to lift up the voices of those who are often ignored or left out.
  • Taking quick action is important. When opportunities come up, we need to be ready to act fast.
    • By having signed agreements, we can respond quickly and efficiently to important events, making sure we don’t miss our chance to create change.

By joining Indivisible University Place, I agree with these beliefs and will do my part to build a strong, active community that works for a fairer and more just society.
